Capital Racer In The States

June 29, 2025
One of our local riders, Kiera, is racing in the States during school holidays. She is currently racing 9 girls in New Zealand, but in USA BMX terms, she will be racing 8 Intermediate Mixed.
HESPERIA BMX
A few days into her trip she hit up a State Race and a Gold Cup Race at Hesperia BMX. It was a blazing 33 degrees Celsius. Racing in the States is quite different than UCI racing. They tend to race on different surfaces — the corners aren’t sealed, and the tracks consist of pure dirt or clay.
What was your favourite part of riding at Hesperia BMX?
“My favorite part of riding at Hesperia BMX was having fun with the other girls. At first I didn’t like the dirt corners but I got used to it in the end”.
Aside from racing, what was your favourite part of Hesperia BMX?
“I loved the cotton candy machine that could make cool fun shapes and it was super yummy!”
Kiera qualified for the Main in for both State and Gold Cup races. The 8 Intermediate Class had the greatest number of riders out of all the classes, whom she all had to compete against.
Final Results:
State Race: 6th
Gold Cup Race: 5th
BELLFLOWER BMX
She then headed over to Bellflower BMX. The tracks in the States tend to be shorter than a standard UCI track. The race consists of a few moto qualifier rounds, depending on numbers, where the top riders then transfer into the final event immediately after each moto. Bellflower BMX track surface consists of a clay and glue track, and has unsealed corners.
What was your favourite part of riding at Bellflower BMX?
“I like that Bellflower BMX is dirt and it’s really smooth.
Aside from racing what was your favourite part of Bellflower BMX?
“Ummm… Eating candy and coming in second!”
