After a week of winter gales and heavy rain, June 8th provided some clear weather for the first round of the Wellington Winter Series. 35 riders from across the region competed for their own points and Handlebar Trophy for their club – with a very close outcome.

The future of BMX looks secure with almost a full gate. Aella Robinson from Capital took a clean sweep of the Beetles class closely followed by Luca Howard from Hutt Valley.

In the Mustangs it was a tight race out front with Maddx Gardiner from Hutt Valley Thunderbolts and Spencer Robinson from Capital fighting over first and second spots throughout the meet. Odin Wedde provided a consistent performance over the day coming 3rd in all his motos.

Fast ‘n Furious was not short of National Titles with Tom Coleman (NZ1), Jack Kelly (NZ3) Liam Parkes (NZ7) Jamie Harkness (SI3) and Ken Feist (O2). Tom Coleman from Kapiti took a clean sweep of the class with Jamie Harkness consistently second. The battle for 3rd and 4th was between Ken Feist from Hutt Valley Thunderbolts and Liam Parkes out of Kapiti.

The Thunderbirds were well represented and spread over two gates showing age isn’t a factor. Capital BMX claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the meeting.

Hutt Valley Thunderbolts took the round by just a single point advantage over Capital BMX.
They will defend the trophy at their home track in the next round on 20th July.
